Dubai-Mubasher: UAE telecom provider du expected to start operating its second satellite earth station by the end of third quarter of 2016, according to Ahmad Al Muhaideb, vice-president of broadcasting and IPTV service operations.
The new station, located on Dubai-Al Ain Road, is in the delivery phase, he added on the sidelines of CABSAT 2016, an event covering broadcast, satellite and entertainment content sectors across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
The new station is planned to attract 60-70% of the broadcast traffic from the ground station in Jebel Ali by 2016, Al Muhaideb noted.
du sees a 20% growth in the number of satellite channels broadcasted through its Samacom teleport facility to reach 310 channels by the end of 2015, compared to 260 channels by the end of 2014.
