Work underway to build $7.9bn petrochemical projects in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum announced that work is underway to start establishing several petroleum projects with total investments of $7.9 billion.

These projects include a medium-density fibreboard (MDF) factory slated to have an annual output capacity of about 205,000 cubic metres of MDF which will be produced from nearly 245,000 cubic metres of rice straw with investments of $217 million, according to a statement on Monday.

In addition, a refining and petrochemicals complex will be built in the Suez Canal Economic Zone to process about 4 million tonnes per year of crude oil in order to produce 2.7 million tonnes per year of petrochemical products and 1.1 million tonnes per year of petroleum products with investments of $7.5 billion.
