Vox Cinemas to open 1st branch in Jeddah on Monday

Mubasher: Vox Cinemas on Sunday announced the opening of its first branch in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Monday, 28 January, Majid Al Futtaim Holding’s CEO said.

The facility locates in the Red Sea Mall, while the opening ceremony will be followed by a movie, Arabian Business reported, citing Alain Bejjani as saying on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

The UAE-based VOX Cinemas announced plans last April to boost its footprint in Saudi Arabia by obtaining new licences, along with opening 300 cinemas.

In April 2018, Majid Al Futtaim Group, the Middle East operator of French retailer Carrefour, announced that it would inaugurate a new four-screen multiplex cinema in Saudi Arabia, in addition to SAR 2 billion investments by its brand Vox Cinemas to open 600 theatres.

Dar Al Arkan Real Estate Development Co inked a contract in September with the Emirati leisure provider Majid Al-Futtaim Group to open VOX Cinemas multiplex in the oil-rich kingdom.

Saudi Arabia opened the first movie theatre with Marvel's "Black Panther" movie in April 2018.

Investments in the entertainment, leisure, and recreational sectors are part of Saudi Vision 2030 which aims to diversify the kingdom's economy away from oil.
