UK annualised CPI stalls in August

The UK annualised CPI stalled in August, as forecasted, while it grew 0.1% in July, FX Street said quoted data released by the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday.

The CPI came in line with the estimates at 0.2% month-on-month, compared to the 0.2% drop seen in July.

UK’s core inflation fell to 1.0% year-on-year as estimated.

“A smaller rise in clothing prices on the month compared with a year ago was the main contributor to the slight fall in the rate. There were also downward effects from changes in motor fuel prices and sea fares. Rising prices for soft drinks and for furniture and furnishings partially offset the fall,” noted ONS report.
