UAE tops Arab countries in COVID-19 Economic Recovery Index

UAE – Mubasher: The UAE ranked first among the Arab countries in the COVID-19 Economic Recovery Index issued by the Horizon Research Group to evaluate countries' capacity to recover post-coronavirus (COVID-19), the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The Index focuses on the ability of 122 countries to recover from COVID-19 based on health resilience and the pre-existing structural strengths and weaknesses.

The UAE was placed in the 5th position in terms of health resilience, 15th in a highly educated workforce, and 17th in low debt levels.

Meanwhile, the country occupied 19th position in terms of governance and social capital and 21st in the digital economy.

The Index referred that although the UAE is among the countries that are hit by the COVID-19 economic repercussions, as its economy mainly depends on sectors affected by the pandemic's lockdown, including international trade and flows of capital.

However, the Gulf country has strong economic resilience that will support recovery, based on strong institutions, well-educated populations, and digitalisation.
