UAE's tourism revenues surpass AED 19bn in H1-22

UAE - Mubasher: Revenues from the UAE’s tourism sector exceeded AED 19 billion in the first half (H1) of 2022, WAM news agency cited Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai.

Al Maktoum noted that the total number of hotel guests nationwide widened by 42% to 12 million visitors in H1-22, expecting a strong tourism recovery in the coming winter season.

The tourism sector has contributed 12% to the UAE’s domestic economy during the period from January to June 2022.

Additionally, the country’s foreign trade amounted to AED 1.06 trillion in H1-22, a jump exceeding 50% from AED 702 billion in H1-20 and compared to AED 840 billion before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dubai Ruler also pointed out that economic growth surpassed 22% in 2022.

On a separate note related to the UAE’s foreign trade of diamonds, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) registered $19.80 billion in diamond trade during H1-22, marking a 24.70% year-on-year (YoY) surge.

In the first six months (6M) of 2022, the polished diamond trade in the UAE jumped by 52.50% YoY to $6.70 billion. Meanwhile, the trade value of rough diamonds reached $13 billion in H1-22.
