UAE’s holdings of US Treasury bond hit $45.6bn in March

UAE – Mubasher: The UAE has increased its holdings of US Treasury bonds by 38.6% year-on-year (YoY) to $45.6 billion in March 2021, compared to around $28 billion in the same month of 2020.

On a monthly basis, the UAE’s holdings of US Treasury bonds decreased by 9.8% in March, compared to $50.6 billion in February, according to the latest data by the US Department of the Treasury.

Globally, the UAE ranked 28th among the holders of the US debt instruments, which were topped by Japan with $1.24 trillion in March.

Meanwhile, China occupied the second position among the holders of the US Treasury bonds with $1.1 trillion.

At the Arab level, the UAE was placed in the third position, while Saudi Arabia ranked second with about $130.8 billion investments in the US debt instruments.
