UAE - Mubasher: The volume of e-commerce sales in the UAE is expected to climb by 23% to AED 100 billion ($27 billion) by 2022, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.
This announcement was made by the Director-General of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, on the sidelines of GITEX Technology Week 2020, being held on 6-10 December.
Musabih referred that Dubai Customs is preparing for developing the region's first-of-its-kind cross-border e-commerce platform in the upcoming 50 years.
This platform will meet the needs of partners in the e-commerce supply chain and enable Dubai-based companies to depend more on e-commerce in their local and regional distribution of products.
Hence, the cost of e-commerce operations will be lowered by 20%.
The adoption of e-channels for online shopping is forecast to grow by 10% following the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as shown by recent data.
