UAE's Metito, Scatec in talks to build $1.5bn desalination plant in Egypt

Mubasher: Dubai-based Metito Holdings, Scatec ASA, and Orascom Construction Plc are holding talks with Egypt’s sovereign wealth fund to establish a renewable-powered desalination plant worth $1.5 billion, Metito’s Managing Director for Africa, Karim Madwar, told Bloomberg.

The consortium has recommended building a 400-megawatt solar power facility and a desalination plant, with a capacity of 1 million to 2 million cubic metres per day.

Madwar remarked that the country is capable of having floating mobile desalination plants like the three Metito is building in Saudi Arabia for about $300 million.

Meanwhile, Metito is cooperating with Hassan Allam, Arab Contractors, and Orascom Construction to launch the world's largest wastewater treatment plant in Egypt to irrigate as much as 500,000 acres west of the Nile Delta area.
