UAE – Mubasher: The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has approved the emergency use of Moderna's coronavirus vaccine.
This decision was made following the completion of clinical trials and a strict assessment carried out to approve the vaccine’s local emergency use, in addition to the approval of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to a press release on Sunday.
Moderna vaccine is the fifth coronavirus vaccine approved in the UAE after Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford AstraZeneca, Russia’s Sputnik V, and China’s Sinopharm.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Mohamed Salim Al Olama, referred that approving the emergency use of Moderna will contribute to enhancing the prevention and accelerating the recovery phase and community immunization.
Al Olama remarked that the COVID-19 vaccine shots have increased to about 15 million doses, reflecting the success of the national vaccination campaign.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Health Regulatory Sector, Amin Hussein Al Amiri, said that the decision was taken after Moderna had submitted all the documents that fulfil the UAE's procedures and regulations and come in line with global standards for the safety of the vaccine and its use.
The Managing Director of Magenta Investments, Zahid Al Sabti, commented: "Magenta is fully committed to supporting the efforts of the government of the United Arab Emirates in its monumental efforts to contain the pandemic."
The Chief Commercial Officer of Moderna, Corinne Le Goff, said: "Together with our partners, we hope to advance our goal to expand access to our vaccine globally, and support governments, as with the UAE, in protecting their citizens, residents, and visitors against the pandemic."
