UAE Avivo to expand in MENA

Dubai – Mubasher: Avivo is seeking to boost its footprint in the GCC and North Africa over the coming months.

The UAE-based healthcare company is currently operating two hospitals in the GCC nation, namely the National Hospital in Abu Dhabi and Conceive in Sharjah, in addition to 29 clinics including 10 dental centres with labs, six pharmacies and two diagnostic facilities in the UAE, Gulf Business reported, citing Avivo’s CEO Dilshaad Ali as saying.

Founded in 1960, the group has six distribution facilities and two training centres.

Avivo has facilities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Kuwait, along with eyeing expansion in other countries such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and North Africa.

It is also mulling over private-public partnerships (PPP) in some countries.

“We have launched a centre of excellence in plastic surgery run by resident and visiting doctors from the US and Europe. We also have plans to launch a global rhinoplasty centre of excellence soon comprising five nose surgeons from around the world,” Ali commented.

He added that the group has segmented its assets into low-end and mid-to-high end clinics, noting that some of the clinics are currently being transformed into speciality clinics offering surgical services, which will help the company to raise its revenues base.

“Encouraging private sector investment in the region, the government should build the confidence to invest and bring the latest technologies to the local population. The current efforts of the Dubai government to promote medical tourism is an excellent initiative to enhance the healthcare infrastructure and improve the quality of delivery to reach global standards,” Ali pointed out.

It is worth noting that the GCC’s private health sector is expected to reach $94 billion by 2021, compared to $62 billion in 2016, a report by MENA Research Partners (MRP) said.

The report noted that both Saudi Arabia and the UAE represent more than two third of the market.
