Turkish coup fails in 24 hours, 15 July to be Turkey's democratic day

Mubasher: Turkish military announced on Friday 15 July taking over the country and overthrowing Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's present president, according to local media platforms.

The military said that the coup is to protect the democratic regime and human rights and pledged to preserve the countries' foreign relations and to give the priority to the law sovereign.

It also imposed the martial law and curfew in Turkey's states and announced that the country is being run by "peace council."

On the other hand, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim denied the coup pointing out that the elected government was still in control and the president was safe.

International newspapers reported late Friday that fighting was still heard in Ankara and Istanbul after the chaotic attempt by members of the military to wrest control from Erdogan.

Turkish maritime authorities have shut Istanbul’s Bosphorus Strait for security and safety reasons, while the Turkish government took over Ataturk airport, according to Istanbul Turkish TV channel.

In a statement early Saturday, Erdogan blamed Fatuhallah Goln for the military coup attempt assuring that it was over. He pledged that he will launch a purification campaign over the military.

Nihat Zeybekci, the Turkish minister of economy, declared that Turkey will consider 15 July as the day of democracy, stating that the Turks faced the tanks on their way to takeover governmental buildings.

He pointed out that 81 Turkish states witnessed demonstrations led by Justice and Development Party refuting the revolutionary movements
