Trade exchange between Egypt, Italy hits EUR 3.29bn in 2021 - Minister

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's Minister of Trade and Industry, Ahmed Samir, has reiterated his country’s keenness to enhance economic cooperation frameworks with Italy across different fields, being one of its key strategic partners in Europe.  

The minister’s remarks were made during his meeting with Italy’s Ambassador to Cairo, Michele Quaroni, earlier this day. The meeting was held with the aim of discussing bilateral future economic and investment cooperation, according to an official statement on Wednesday.

In 2021, trade exchange between Egypt and Italy amounted to EUR 3.29 billion, of which EUR 1.44 billion represented Egyptian exports.

Italy is one of the key countries investing in the Egyptian market with total investments of EUR 1.70 billion in April 2022. These investments were distributed among more than 1,233 projects across the sectors of industry, agriculture, tourism, services, construction, information technology, and financial services.

Egypt's Samir further stressed the government’s readiness to provide support to Italian companies operating in Egypt and dismantle any obstacles they may face.

For his part, Italy’s Quaroni said that a delegation of Italian businessmen will visit Egypt during the second week of December 2022 to enhance cooperation with the country's private sector across the agriculture sector, adding the maritime line between Egypt and Italy is getting the final touches ahead of its launch. 

Moreover, Quaroni revealed that the Italian government is allocating EUR 10 million worth of financing for cooperation projects with Egypt.
