Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt has generated $1.69 billion in revenue from the Suez Canal during the first quarter (Q1) of 2022, a 20% year-on-year (YoY) jump from $1.40 billion, according to the Suez Canal Authority’s data.
In the January-March 2022 period, the number of vessels crossing the canal soared by 15.80% to 5,303 ships, compared to 4,581 during the same three months a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the ship tonnages stood at 313.30 million tonnes in Q1-22, up 7.40% from 291.70 million tonnes in Q1-21.
It is worth mentioning that in 2021, the canal’s revenues reached $6.30 billion, an annual rise of 12.8% from EGP 5.60 billion.
