Subscribers to Egypt's universal health insurance reach 3.4m

Cairo – Mubasher: A total of 3.41 million Egyptians have applied for the new Universal Health Insurance in the first phase of the programme in Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Aswan, and Suez the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Monday.

The members include about 654,770 in Port Said, 800,000 in Luxor, 939,300 in Ismailia, 84,560 in South Sinai, 753,220 in Aswan, and 182,960 in Suez.

The Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, previously said citizens covered under the universal health insurance system will pay no more than EGP 300 even for the largest surgeries such as organ transplants.
