Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi cost of living index (inflation) shed 0.3% in July 2017, compared to the same month in the year earlier, remaining in the negative for the seventh consecutive month, the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) said Tuesday.
The Saudi authority attributed the year-on-year decline in inflation to the drop in recreation and culture by 2.7%, followed by food and beverages with 2%, clothing and footwear with 1.8%, and transport with 1.7%.
Month-on-month, Saudi Arabia’s inflation inched up 0.1% to 137.7 from 137.5, the GASTAT added.
The GASTAT attributed the monthly rise in inflation to the increase in tobacco prices by 14.3% and clothing and footwear by 0.7%.
