Saudi Arabia pledges $100m for global tourism

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has allocated $100 million to set up an international fund supporting global tourism in cooperation with the World Bank, the Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al Khateeb, announced during the Tourism Recovery Summit.

He noted that the number of the world’s travellers has shrunk by 64% due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 60 million jobs have been affected by the pandemic, while the tourism contribution to the global gross domestic product (GDP) decreased to more than 50%.

A recent report showed that the Saudi Arabian tourism sector remained buoyant throughout 2020 and the first quarter (Q1) of 2021, driven by domestic market strength.
