Saudi Arabia launches system allowing consumers generate power from homes

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Ministry of Energy has launched small photovoltaic solar energy systems to enable consumers to generate electrical energy from a home or an entity.

The newly-launched systems allow consumers to safely connect the produced power with the public electric network distribution systems in the kingdom, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.

The qualified companies and contractors will be selected accurately by a committee from the energy ministry and other bodies. Furthermore, the ministry will launch “Shamsi”, a new platform that will help consumers determine economic feasibility and calculate estimated costs.

The project comes within the ministry’s efforts aimed at providing required legislations to address all options to get renewable energy.

Moreover, it aims to support and encourage the localisation of the renewable energy industry in tandem with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.
