Egypt Today: Rwanda's President Paul Kagame and Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi oversaw the signing of multiple cooperation agreements Tuesday, focusing on water management, investment protection, and infrastructure development as the two African nations seek to strengthen economic ties.
The memorandums of understanding include frameworks for managing water resources, allocating land in Rwanda for logistical and commercial hubs, developing housing projects, and protecting bilateral investments. The agreements signal growing economic cooperation between North Africa's most populous nation and the East African economic hub.
"Today's agreements mark an important step in our partnership," President El-Sisi said during a joint press conference, highlighting Egypt's commitment to supporting Rwanda's development goals. President Kagame echoed the sentiment, noting Rwanda's interest in expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The deals come as both countries face regional challenges, including water security issues and economic development priorities. The water resource management agreement specifically addresses shared concerns about sustainable use of transboundary water sources.
The meeting also covered regional stability issues, with both leaders emphasizing the need for peaceful solutions to conflicts in the Great Lakes region and the Horn of Africa. They reaffirmed their commitment to the two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The new agreements are expected to facilitate increased Egyptian investment in Rwanda's growing infrastructure sector while expanding Rwanda's access to North African markets through Egyptian trade corridors.
