Qatar telecom regulator investigates Vodafone Qatar service outage

Mubasher: The Qatar Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) on Tuesday announced launching a full investigation into the cutting of voice and data services by Vodafone Qatar.

“[We] requested Vodafone to provide a detailed investigation report by 20 July, addressing violations of the service continuity and customer information obligations stated in its licence,” the CRA said in a statement.

On Monday, Vodafone Qatar suffered a glitch while upgrading its network that resulted in an outage in its network and services. Customers were unable to make voice calls or access data services.

The CRA also requested that Vodafone Qatar address the main cause of the outage, the nature and extent of its impact on customers, the steps taken to resolve the issue as well as the measures and procedures carried out to avoid such outages in the future.

Earlier on Tuesday, Vodafone Qatar announced restoring 2G voice services, noting that it was focusing on restoring the full network with all of its services.

The company said it will be announcing a compensation plan within 24 hours of service restoration.

Vodafone Qatar’s stock levelled up 1.28% to QAR 8.61 at Tuesday’s close on the QSE.
