Qatar’s loans rise to $260bn in 2018

Mubasher: Loans provided by commercial banks operating in Qatar witnessed a 3.2% year-on-year growth in December 2018, according to the monthly budget report issued by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB).

On an annual basis, total loans provided in the GCC nation amounted to QAR 940.43 billion ($259.95 billion), against QAR 911.04 billion ($251.82 billion) in December 2017.

Loans provided by local banks to the private sector grew 10.9% to QAR 588.54 billion last month, from QAR 530.54 billion in the same month in 2017, the QCB stated.

On the other hand, loans provided to the public sector in Qatar fell 6.3% year-on-year to QAR 336.78 billion, compared to QAR 359.50 billion in December 2017.

Loans offered to non-banking financial institutions witnessed an annual drop of 28.01% to QAR 15.11 billion last month from QAR 20.99 billion, whereas month-on-month, total loans slipped 0.03% from QAR 940.75 billion last November.
