Mubasher: The Producer Price Index (PPI) of the Qatari manufacturing sector increased 17.6% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2017.
The PPI rose to 61.1 points in Q4-17, compared to 51.1 points in the previous quarter, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said in a report on Wednesday.
The PPI consists of three main groups, namely: The mining sector with 72.7%, followed by manufacturing, and electricity and water segments with 26.8% and 0.5%, respectively.
The MDPS ascribed the PPI’s growth to an increase in the prices mining with 16%.
In the three-month period ended December 2017, prices of the manufacturing group jumped 21.4% due to price hikes of seven products topped by the rise of refined petroleum products with 26.7%.
The electricity and water group levelled up 9% as prices of electricity rose 9.6%, while water's prices jumped 8.1%, the report showed.
Quarter-on-quarter, the PPI of Qatari products went up to 14.1% in Q4-17 compared to the quarter before.
