Qatar’s IPI rises 5% in August – MDPS

Mubasher: Qatar’s industrial production index (IPI) jumped 4.7% year-on-year to 110.4 points in August, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said in a statement on Sunday.

The manufacturing index of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter consists of three main components, namely mining represents 83.6%, while manufacturing, electricity, and water account for 15.2%, 0.7%, and 0.5%, respectively.

The statement attributed the IPI's August rise to an increase in the mining segment by 5.7%, in addition to the growth in the quantities of crude oil and natural gas production by 5.7%, the ministry's data showed.

Meanwhile, the production of other subgroups of the manufacturing index witnessed a 2% jump topped by the manufacture of rubber and plastics products with 7.1%.

As for electricity and water, they witnessed an 11.8 % drop, while water supplies fell 17.4%, the ministry said.

On monthly basis, Qatar’s IPI went up 2.5%, compared to 107.7 points in July.
