Mubasher: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Monday announced the opening of its first remotely-operated smart power substation at Barwa Village.
The new project is one of 31 substations that will supply electricity to Qatar’s World Cup 2022 matches, Kahramaa said on Twitter.
The rest of the substations will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2019.
The importance of the substation is in overcoming emergencies through remote control without any human intervention, especially by connecting it to Kahramaa's main control room.
The new substation’s cost is 30% up compared to traditional ones, the company added.
Mee Al Nasr, first engineer of Electrical Networks Analysis at Kahramaa, noted that this smart substation is considered the first of its kind in the GCC country.
The substation was completely designed and implemented by Qatari engineers.
