North Oil, KAR to resume Kirkuk oil production

Mubasher: The Iraqi North Oil Company (NOC) and the Kurdish KAR Group are working to resume operations in the Avana and Bai Hassan oil fields in Kirkuk, after the Iraqi army regained control over the disputed region.

The National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) reported that the cooperation between the two firms is not public, adding that the fields were pumping nearly 275,000 barrels per day before the recent military operation.

Iraq has recently increased oil exports from the southern Basra region by 200,000 barrels per day to make up for a shortfall from the northern Kirkuk fields, due to the Iraqi military operations to restore the region from Kurdish fighters who have been there since 2014.

The Russian energy minister Alexander Novak previously said that Russian companies will be able to continue their projects in Iraq, despite the conflicts.
