New 121,766 Saudi employees enter labour market

Riyadh – Mubasher: The number of employed Saudi men and women has increased by a number of 121,766 persons entered the employment market up to 15 December in 2017, said Khaled Aba Al-Khail, Ministry of Labor and Social Development’s spokesperson.

The increase of the number of Saudis join the employment market can be attributed to the initiatives and support programmes launched by the kingdom's labour ministry, Aba Al-Khail added, according to Saudi Gazette.

“The number of Saudis joined the labour market increased to 48,471 in October from 28,154 in September, while 36,062 Saudis took up jobs in November, and 12,280 got employed in the first 15 days of December,” he revealed.

The Saudi labour and social development ministry kicked off five new support programs on 10 October in a bid to enable Saudi men and women to enter the employment market, Saudi Gazette reported.

The new schemes included the saudisation, freelance, and part-time Job programmes, in addition to working women’s children hospitality programme “Qurrat”, and working women transportation programme “Wusool”, Saudi Gazette stated.

“The labour ministry is working to regulate the labour market and to empower Saudi men and women by increasing employment opportunities through an effective strategic partnership with a number of government and private sectors”, labour minister Ali Al-Ghafis unveiled.
