Mitsubishi ships gas turbines to UAE's largest natural gas-fired GTCC facility

UAE - Mubasher: Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has shipped three gas turbines to the Fujairah F3 power plant in the UAE.

The 2,400MW power plant will become the UAE's largest natural gas-fired gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) facility, contributing to the country's power generation sector and the GCC's power grid, according to a press release on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the plant is the first project in the Middle East using advanced M701JAC model turbines, which were shipped from Mitsubishi's Takasago Machinery Works in Hyogo Prefecture.

The project is operated by Fujairah Power Company F3, a special purpose company (SPC) jointly owned by Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), Mubadala Investment Company, Marubeni Corporation, and Hokuriku Electric Power Company.

Built by the South Korean company Samsung C&T Corporation, the plant's full commercial operation is set to start in 2023.

The President of Mitsubishi Power MENA and GTCC Business Unit Leader for EMEA, Khalid Salem, commented: "The establishment of our new business unit earlier this year enabled us to partner more closely across the value chain to offer high quality, reliable solutions that further support the rapid transformation of the region's power supply and the Fujairah F3 project is testament to that."
