Ministry of Local Development invests EGP 343bn in Upper Egypt in six years

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Local Development, Mahmoud Shaarawy, revealed that the total volume of investments in Upper Egypt reached EGP 343 billion in six years.

The investments directed to the 10-governorate southern region have surged to EGP 41 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021, compared to EGP 21 billion in FY14/15 and EGP 8 billion in FY09/10, he added in a statement on Monday.

The local development programmes and initiatives supervised by the ministry included EGP 48 billion worth of investments between 2014 and 2020 in Upper Egypt, including EGP 14 billion for road pavement and lighting, he pointed out.

Moreover, the sanitation and solid waste management programme included investments worth more than EGP 6 billion, while the firefighting, police, and local development units were supported with investments of about EGP 5 billion.
