Makkah receives five million Umrah pilgrims since service return

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Muhammad Saleh Benten, said the Grand Mosque of Makkah received around five million Umrah pilgrims since the service suspension had been gradually lifted.

Benten reiterated that no coronavirus cases have been detected among the pilgrims, according to a statement on Wednesday.

Earlier today, Governor of Makkah Province, Prince Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud, met with the Hajj minister to discuss the ministry’s measures to apply health standards on pilgrims.

In September, the kingdom approved the gradual resumption of the Umrah service through four stages, in line with the coronavirus (COVID-19) precautionary measures.

On Wednesday, the kingdom’s health ministry announced 177 new COVID-19 cases, taking the count to 361,536 infections so far.
