Majis Industrial Services, Toshiba sign OMR 3.27m water treatment contracts

Mubasher: Majis Industrial Services has signed OMR 3.27 million ($8.5 million) agreements with Toshiba Water Solutions for boosting Majis’ wastewater treatment’s capacity and the efficiency of its reverse osmosis plant in terms of costs and reliability, according to a company statement.

The first contract is valued at OMR 2.8 million and concerns a rapid gravity filter technology project. It will process 83,000 cubic metres of seawater per day, as pre-treatment of feed water for Majis’ reverse osmosis plant at SOHAR Industrial Port.

Planned to be commissioned before the end of 2020, the project is expected to reduce electricity consumption by 0.25 kilowatt-hour per cubic metre of processed water.

“In establishing these projects, we are taking important steps towards increasing the scale of our operations, improving cost-efficiency, and supporting the environmental agenda we have set ourselves,” CEO of Majis Industrial Services Ahmed Al-Mazrouy commented.

Valued at OMR 468,000, the second contract will include the design and procurement of containerised effluent treatment plants with a capacity of 1.2 million litres per day. The project is expected to be completed in December 2019.

“Wastewater treatment is one of the key challenges facing the water services industry, and it is an especially pressing issue in water-scarce countries such as Oman, where effective recycling efforts take on special importance,” chief managing director of Toshiba Water Solutions Koichi Matsui said.
