Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will not impose any new taxes on consumer products whether those sold through electronic platforms or conventional outlets, minister of finance Mohamed Maait said.
The goods sold through e-commerce platforms are subject to the value-added tax (VAT), collected directly from the resident companies such as Souq and Jumia and through the customs authority from non-resident companies such as Amazon and eBay, Maait noted in a statement on Wednesday.
The proposed amendments to the law only include collecting taxes from non-resident companies directly by the Egyptian Tax Authority to ensure a swift, effective collection of taxes.
The VAT has been applicable to all goods and services sold in Egypt since the introduction of the law in 2016.
