King Abdullah Port records 15m TEU in container handling

Riyadh - Mubasher: King Abdullah Port (KAP) has reached 15 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) in container throughput since its container terminal started operations nine years ago in September 2013.

The volume’s record came in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 as well as the National Transport and Logistics’strategy to expand growth across the maritime shipping sector, according to a press release.

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the port witnessed a 31% surge in container throughput during 2021.

Jay New, CEO of King Abdullah Port, said: “[The registered figure] will motivate us to aim for further successes while also boosting our contribution to raise the efficiency of Saudi Arabia’s logistics sector, transform the Kingdom into a leading global trade hub, and diversify its economy and increase its non-oil exports.”
