Jafza sees AED 40bn trade in machinery, equipment sector

Dubai – Mubasher: The machinery and equipment sector in Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) accomplished trade worth over AED 40 billion in 2015, representing 12% of the free zone’s total trade value.

Jafza organised a forum themed “Energy Engineering Technologies” for machinery and equipment sector, according to a statement.

The UAE and other GCC nations initiated a number of infrastructure, logistics and residential and commercial projects, according to Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO of DP World and chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation.

The new projects resulted in a continued demand for machineries and equipments, and entry of new companies to this lucrative market, Bin Sulayem added.

“In Jafza, there are 730 companies from 61 countries functioning in this sector, of which companies from the Middle East region lead with 36%, Europe 28% and Asia Pacific 21%,” the statement highlighted.

The machinery and equipment sector represents over 3.1 million square metres in Jafza with over 29,000 employees, almost 21% of the total workforce in Jafza.
