Int'l consortiums race for new railway projects in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: The supreme committee of Egypt’s housing and transport ministries on Thursday announced the list of consortiums and global firms that submitted documents for implementation and operation of the projects of Ain Sokhna-New Alamain electric train, New Administrative Capital-Nasr city monorail, and 6th of October-Giza train tenders.

The number of consortiums and global firms that requested setting up the electric train reached 23 consortiums, while the number of consortiums and international companies submitted for the monorail tender are 22 consortiums, housing ministry said in a statement.

The winner consortiums and firms of both tenders will be announced by the end of February, the committee highlighted.

The 6th of October monorail will link 6th of October city and Sheikh Zayed with Cairo and Giza at 35 kilometres long through 10 stations, housing minister’s advisor of transport and roads affairs said, adding that the monorail will be constructed with a capacity of about million passengers per day.

The New Administrative Capital monorail will include 22 terminal and will accelerate developments in the new capital and New Cairo.
