Mubasher: INTERCEM, the world’s first international conference dedicated to the cement sector, on Monday discussed how women leaders support and mentor other women in the industry, during a webinar that celebrated International Women’s Day.
The webinar discussed the progress of female professionals in both office and factory-based positions, how new challenges are emerging with new work-practices following the pandemic, and the broader issues affecting executives in the modern workplace such as work-life balance.
Panellists were Noha Bakr, Communications and Corporate Affairs, LafargeHolcim Egypt; Dinah McLeod, CEO, Global Cement and Concrete Association; Jamie Gentoso, CEO- US Cement, LafargeHolcim; Anne Dekeukelaere, Managing Director, Cementis; Arusha Khan, Director, Shun Shing Group International; Kristin Beck, SVP of Integrated Supply Chain, LafagreHolcim US. The session was moderated by Anne-Marie Warris, Director, ecoreflect.
With participating panellists coming from Egypt, the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US), Switzerland, and Hong Kong, the discussion extended to the pivotal role played by inspiring women leaders in the cement industry around the globe.
Noha Bakr, Communications and Corporate Affairs Director, LafargeHolcim Egypt, called upon cement producers to realize the importance of inclusion and diversity. She also encouraged women around the globe not to shy away from working in heavy industry fields, including cement, proudly stating that two female leaders of her company were among five Egyptian women who received continental recognition after being chosen for Africa’s top ranks by AFRIKACEM, which was followed by another recognition from the Egyptian National Council for Women (NCW).
It is worth noting that the upcoming edition of the conference, INTERCEM Dubai 2021, will be held on 22-24 March. The event is set to take place virtually through a series of online webinars in line with the preventive measures against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
