GE wins El Dabaa’s nuclear turbine platform contract

Cairo – Mubasher: General Electric (GE) on Tuesday announced it has won the contract to deliver the turbine platform equipment for El Dabaa nuclear power plant project in Egypt through AAEM, its joint venture with the Russian power engineering company Atomenergomash.

The US-based conglomerate will supply the initial design of four conventional platforms, in addition to four nuclear turbine generator units, including the Arabelle half-speed steam turbines, according to a statement.

The company will also provide technical support for the on-site installation and operation of equipment, GE added.

“As Egypt works to diversify its energy production and to support its growing economy, the El Dabaa nuclear power plant, equipped with GE Power’s Arabelle technology, will help Egypt deliver on their ambitious goals,” CEO of GE’s Steam Power Andreas Lusch said.

“Today, the Arabelle is helping to deliver more than 20GW of power around the world and we will leverage this experience and know-how to deliver reliable, dependable and CO2 free energy to the Egyptian grid,” he continued.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi previously stated that El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, to be executed at a cost of EGP 1 trillion ($100 billion), would turn Egypt into a developed country.
