Future gov’t to deliver 8% boost for Bahrain's IT market by 2021

Mubasher: Information Technology (IT) market in Bahrain is expected to hit record highs at BHD 70 million by 2021 on the back of future government and digital transformation, the newly appointed country manager of SAP Bahrain said on Sunday.

Digital transformation has been rapidly growing at organisations in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030, particularly with real-time software to change citizen and customer experiences, according to a press release.

Accordingly, Bahrain’s IT market is nearing a growth rate of 8% to reach BHD 70 million by 2021, statistics by BMI Research showed.

Reham Almusa, Country Manager of SAP Bahrain, said: “Bahrain’s record-high IT spend shows how rapidly digital transformation is accelerating for the public and private sectors,”

“Bahraini organisations, especially in the public sector and banking and finance, are becoming Intelligent Enterprises to gain a competitive edge, predict citizen and customer needs, and drive innovation,” Almusa added.

The GCC state has a great opportunity to boost its IT market by operating on the cloud data to optimise costs and business agility, the release indicated, noting that “SAP is seeing strong Bahrain interest on SAP’s Saudi Arabia Digital Hub and cloud data centre.”

Bahrain Polytechnic has launched the first SAP Next-Gen Hub in the country in a  bid to encourage innovation community and youth development, the release said.

Moreover, leading universities in the country have virtual spaces that allow the SAP ecosystem of customers and partners to co-innovate and co-create with students.

CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic Jeff Zabudsky said: “We are delighted to have launched the first SAP Next-Gen Hub in collaboration with SAP. We want to continue collaborating with our industry partners to ensure that our students are educated with the best practices with SAP Next-Gen resources to utilise SAP software and curriculum in classrooms.”

Furthermore, global director of SAP Next-Gen Labs Wissam Kadi highlighted, during the recently held Unbound Bahrain, the role of organisations in impacting innovation by “activating science fiction thinking and imagination, and leading with purpose tied to the UN Global Goals.”

Kadi also clarified SAP’s role in bolstering the One Billion Lives initiative and how SAP Next-Gen support innovation, intrapreneurship, and entrepreneurship in collaboration with its expansive ecosystem.

“Bahrain is a key growth market, especially for running on the cloud, driving innovation, and supporting the country’s young talent development and workforce of the future,” Ahmed Al Faifi, senior vice president and managing director at SAP Middle East North, said.
