Families of plane crash victims sue Apple, EgyptAir

Cairo – Mubasher: The families of people who died on EgyptAir flight 804 in May 2016 have filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc. and the Egyptian airline, claiming that the US-based firm’s devices had caused the plane to crash.

In May 2016, EgyptAir flight 804 had crashed into the Mediterranean Sea while en route from Paris to Cairo, killing 40 Egyptians, 15 French citizens, and a British.

Many of the victims have been reporting that the plane went down as the co-pilot's iPhone 6S or iPad mini was overheated and caught fire at the flight deck, the Daily Mail newspaper reported.

Families said that an investigation has revealed that the device had made a huge fire in the cockpit, which consequently caused the plane to crash, court documents seen by TMZ showed.

Egyptian authorities have concluded their inquiry on the crash and a file has been passed to the country's attorney general in Cairo, the British tabloid added.

On the other hand, a separate investigation by the French authorities was held back as Egyptian authorities had refused to give out debris and raw data from the aircraft's black box recorders.
