Expats’ remittances in Saudi Arabia rise to $27.6bn in 9M – SAMA

Riyadh – Mubasher: Remittances from expatriates in Saudi Arabia inched up 0.1% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2018, registering SAR 103.5 billion ($27.6 billion), from SAR 103.4 billion ($27.5 billion), the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) reported.

From July to September 2018, remittances edged up 0.18% to SAR 32.439 billion, compared to SAR 32.380 billion in Q3-17, SAMA said.

The Saudi central bank further noted that expats’ remittances jumped 15.09% to SAR 9.837 billion in September, against SAR 8.547 billion in the same month a year earlier.

Saudi transfers

Meanwhile, money transfers by Saudis went up 2.45% to SAR 46 billion during the nine-month period ended September, from SAR 44.9 billion in the same period of 2017.

Saudis’ transfers decreased by 24.8% to SAR 12.986 billion in Q3-18, compared to SAR 17.275 billion in the same three months a year earlier.

In September, money transfers by Saudis surged 25.4% to SAR 4.775 billion, from SAR 3.809 billion in the same month of the year before.
