Cairo – Mubasher: Elsewedy Electric Co, along with Arab Contractors, will commence the construction work of Stiegler's Gorge dam in Tanzania within five months.
The dam is set for completion in four years and it will offer several opportunities for Egypt in Africa, CEO of the Egyptian cable maker Ahmed El Sewedy told Amr Adeeb’s El Hekakya talk show on MBC TV channel in a phone call.
He also noted that nearly 1,000 to 2,000 Egyptian workers will be working in the Tanzanian dam.
On Monday, the consortium of Elsewedy Electric and Arab Contractors received the preliminary approval to begin the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Tanzania.
The alliance previously presented an offer to the global competitive tender to build a 2,115-megawatt hydroelectric power plant at Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station in Tanzania.
The final value of the project has not been set yet, the Arab world's largest listed cable company indicated.
In July, Elsewedy Electric’s CEO revealed that the company would partner with Arab Contractors and other firms to compete for the construction of a hydroelectric dam in Tanzania.
The dam will be built with up to $3 billion in investments, to be arranged by the Tanzanian government, the Arab world's largest listed cable company added.
Tanzania is looking to build the biggest hydroelectric dam in East Africa over the Rufiji River.
