El-Tor Port receives first commercial Ship in years

Cairo – Mubasher: Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) announced that El-Tor port has received "TRUST 1" Ship having on board a shipment of 1,495 live calves coming from Sawaken port from Sudan, which is considered the first commercial ship received by the port in many years, as the port used to receive maintenance vessels of the oil dredgers only.

SCZone also announced that some preparations were made to receive such a vessel to enter El-Tor port related to the dimensions and draft of the vessel as well as the readiness of the port for this particular kind of vessels as well as navigational safeguarding of the vessel and its shipment, according to a statement on Wednesday.

In addition, logistic services like tying, towing, and guiding a vessel were provided and all other required procedures were taken.

"The vessel with 74.16 metres in length and a shipment of 2,975 tonnes coming from Sudan is the first of its kind to enter the port, for Misr El kheir Foundation,". Yehia Zaki, Chairman of Suez Canal Economic Zone, announced.

"The zone also prepared for the vessel's reception by cooperating and organising with Ministries of Defense and Interior, as well as Southern Sinai governorate, customs service, veterinary and all concerned health and veterinary entities as the port took all required procedures concerning unloading the shipment on the jetty and putting the shipment into the vet quarry," Zaki added

SCZone is currently working on a five-year plan for developing the affiliated ports for raising its efficiency to be able to compete with other ports in the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.

El-Tor Port, affiliated to SCZone, lies on a distance of 1.6 square kilometres (sqkm) in Southern Sinai governorate on the eastern coast of Suez Gulf, at a distance of about 280 km towards the South from Suez governorate, as the port is used for providing maritime services for the activities of petroleum services for Suez Gulf area.
