Egyptian gov’t pumps $1.6bn to develop information infrastructure

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced that the value of the country’s investments in information infrastructure has reached $1.6 billion.

These investments are aimed at developing the internet speed to reach 20 Mbps by the end of 2019 and 40 Mbps in 2020, the ministry added, according to the Middle East News Agency (MENA).

The Egyptian telecom sector grew 16% during the fiscal year 2018/2019, compared to a growth of 12% in the year-ago period, the telecom ministry revealed.

The ministry noted that it is currently focusing on various areas including digitalisation, creation of innovation jobs for youths, and training, along with the development of the information infrastructure.
