Cairo – Mubasher: The Chairman of Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, said that tugboats are working to refloat one of the world’s largest cargo container ships that blocked all traffic in Suez Canal.
The Panama-flagged Ever Given container vessel, operated by the shipping company Evergreen, ran aground sideways across the waterway on Tuesday, Rabie said in a statement on Wednesday.
The 224,000 tonne-vessel, which has a length of 400 metres and a width of 59 metres, was hit by strong winds gusting at about 40 knots, he added.
The giant cargo ship was travelling from China to the Dutch port city of Rotterdam.
