Egypt spends EGP 14.2bn on presidential health initiatives

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Minister of Health, Hala Zayed, announced that digital transformation in the health sector covered the presidential initiatives which have been launched since 2018 at a cost of EGP 14.2 billion.

The country worked on automating records of births and deaths, medical reports of beneficiaries of the universal health insurance scheme, and the mechanism of the provision of subsidised infant formula, Zayed said.

The statement came during the inauguration of the integrated medical complex and several major health projects in Ismailia.

In June 2020, the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi launched an initiative for the treatment of chronic diseases and kidney failure which targets 28 million people aged above 40 years old.

The country also launched an initiative for the elimination of hepatitis C virus infection. About 70 million citizens aged between 18 and 60 years old were screened for the virus and other non-infectious diseases.
