Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Housing is currently implementing two water projects at a value of EGP 62 million and two wastewater projects at a value of EGP 701 million in the governorate of Damietta.
Two water tanks at a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres per day each are currently being built in Ras El-Bar to serve 500,000 people, the housing minister Assem El-Gazzar said in a statement on Thursday.
El-Bostan water plant is currently being expanded at a capacity of 52,000 cubic metres per day to serve 300,000 people.
In addition, the dual wastewater treatment plant at Damietta Furniture City is also being expanded at a cost of EGP 481 million and a capacity of 25,000 cubic metres per day.
The government is also working on implementing the wastewater expansion project in Ras El-Bar at a cost of EGP 220 million and a capacity of 25,000 cubic metres per day.
The housing minister also revealed that sewage services are currently being provided to 18 rural areas to serve 153,000 people, representing 16% of the total population of rural areas, noting that 45 rural areas accommodating 540,000 people, or58 % of total rural popultion, are served by sewage facilities.
Accordingly, the percentage of rural areas served by sewage facilities will be raised to 74%.
