Egypt sees EGP 80bn e-commerce transactions in 2021

Cairo - Mubasher: Egypt has recorded EGP 80 billion in e-commerce transactions by the end of 2021, the member of the Egyptian Junior Businessmen Association (EJB) and CEO of Boost, Sherif Makhlouf, announced on Sunday.

The e-commerce transactions in the Middle East have also amounted to $71 billion in 2021, according to a press release.

Electronics have accounted for 28% of the revenues of e-commerce in Egypt, followed by fashion with 21%, food and personal care with 19%, and toys, hobby, and DIY with 19%.

Makhlouf commented that direct-to-consumer (D2C) companies are part of e-commerce with marketplaces such as Amazon, Jumia, and Noon only representing 50% of the sector.

The CEO of Boost added that the spread of D2C companies would have a positive impact on the Egyptian economy, as several e-commerce brands are sourcing and manufacturing locally, and many brands are shipping products internationally.
