Egypt's universal health insurance supports citizens amid pandemic

Cairo – Mubasher: The Minister of Finance, Mohamed Maait, said the universal health insurance scheme has so far covered about 700,000 out of total 950,000 citizens in Port Said since its launch a year ago.

Beneficiaries have witnessed improved and easier-to-access medical service despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Maait added in a statement on Thursday.

They can choose from 51 healthcare service providers, including eight hospitals, 20 primary healthcare units, and 10 central units.

Maait previously revealed that citizens covered under the universal health insurance system will pay no more than EGP 300 even in the largest surgeries such as organ transplants.
