Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s balance of trade deficit shrank by 4.7% year-on-year (YoY) to $3.3 billion in November 2020 from $3.4 billion in the same month a year earlier, data released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed on Monday.
Exports
The most populous Arab nation’s exports fell by 11.2% to $2.2 billion last November, compared to $2.5 billion.
Exports of petroleum products declined by 40.1%, ready-made garments by 4.6%, crude petroleum by 38.8%, and food preparations by 2.4%.
On the other hand, exports of plastics increased by 19.4%, carpets and rugs by 35.7%, medicine and pharmaceuticals by 6.3%, and furniture by 21.3%.
Imports
The North African nation’s imports retreated by 7.4% to $5.5 billion in the 11th month of 2020, compared to $5.9 billion in the corresponding month in 2019.
Imports of petroleum products slid by 20.2%, wheat by 14.2%, medicines and pharmaceuticals by 24.3%, and plastics by 2.5%.
Meanwhile, imports of passenger cars rose by 57.5%, meat by 2.5%, refined oils by 33.9%, and copper and its products by 3.1%.
