Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum revealed that total consumption of oil products reached 26 million tonnes in 2020, down by 13% from 29.9 million a year earlier.
Meanwhile, local consumption of natural gas declined by 1% to 45.2 million tonnes this year from 45.6 million in 2019, according to a statement on Monday.
The electricity sector accounted for 60.4% of total natural gas consumption, while the manufacturing sector made up 23%.
Overall petroleum production reached more than 76 million tonnes of oil equivalent, including 29.6 million tonnes of crude oil and condensates, 45.3 million tonnes of natural gas, and 1.2 million tonnes of butane.
The current output of natural gas amounts to 6.6 billion cubic feet per day, enough to cover local consumption and exports, while the output capacity reaches about 7.2 billion cubic feet per day.
The total consumption of oil and gas decreased by 5.9% to 71.3 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2020, compared to 75.5 million in 2019.
