Egypt's top taxpayers have until 15 September to join e-invoice system

Cairo – Mubasher: The Egyptian Tax Authority announced that the deadline for top taxpayers to join the electronic invoice system is 15 September, the Chairman, Reda Abdel Kader, said.

So far, a total of 2,200 companies have joined the system, Abdel Kader added in a statement on Tuesday, warning that non-compliant companies will be referred to the prosecution.

According to the provisions of Article 35 of the Unified Tax Procedures Law, companies and individuals are obliged to record their sales and purchases on the electronic system.

As of 1 October, the non-compliant companies will be excluded from the top taxpayer category, losing all technical support and technology advantages available to them.

In mid-November 2020, the Egyptian Tax Authority required 134 companies of the top corporate taxpayers to issue electronic tax invoices.

The second phase of making e-invoices obligatory, which began on 15 February 2021, included 347 companies, while the third phase, which started on 15 May 2021, included the remaining of the top corporate taxpayers.
